1991 MAZDA MX-5 V-Spec Special Edition @ MX 5

Jun 27th, 2009 | Category: Mazda
As you can see, this is a very nice Mazda MX5 1.6, first registered in 1991. Finished in British Racing Green with a Tan leather interior, this is a really eye-catching car. This is the desirable V-Special – a limited edition featuring a few extra nice bits and pieces. The V- Special models were only available in British Racing Green or occasionally Black: all have a Tan leather interior along with a Nardi Wood rimmed steering wheel, Nardi wood gear knob and wood handbrake handle. They also had a radio player as standard (I have fitted it with a CD player but will also give the original radio/ tape player with the car) ? mine also has speakers built into the headrests, which means you can listen to the stereo even with the top down. The other V-Special extras fitted to my car are air conditioning, polished stainless steel door tread plates and fog lamps. It also has a highly polished wood centre console (very faint cracks on this- hardly noticeable)) with matching wood around the outer air vents. Most V-Specials also had a Limited Slip Diff, though I have been unable to confirm whether my car has this. My car also has a chrome boot rack fitted which looks quite smart. It sits on its original 7 spoke alloy wheels and has good tyres fitted all round. I have also bought a switch (which hasn’t been fitted yet) that allows the lights to be ‘dipped’ rather that fully open – a lovely little extra addition. My MX5 has only covered approx 83000 miles (the guage shows it in KM however the speedo is in miles).  MOT is until October 2009 and its taxed until the end of July 2009. It has been well looked after ? last full service was in November 2008 (plugs, oil, oil filter and air filter.) It has recently had new brake discs and pads fitted all round. Within the last year, I have also fitted a brand new hood. At approximately 64,000 miles, the all important timing belt was changed ? I have the receipt to back this up. The previous lady owner needed the car everyday for work and so she had it maintained regardless of cost ? at some point over the last year, a new clutch was fitted. Needless to say, it drives well: the engine is smooth and strong with really good oil pressure. The gearbox is very positive with the lever ?clicking? nicely into place, just like an old British sportscar. The clutch, being new, is perfectly weighted. With its new brakes all round, it stops really strongly when required. Handling ? as with all MX5s ? is superb: even though it?s only a 1600, little can keep up with it on a twisting country lane. The minus points are: a bit of wear to the edge of the driver?s seat, leaving a small hole ? see photo ? can be repaired though. The LHS electric window does not work due to the motor requiring a new transformer. The top of the dashboard is slightly scruffy ? not really noticeable on photographs but worth mentioning. Being quite old, there is the odd stone chip and parking dent though on the whole, the bodywork looks really good and responds well to a good wax. There is also a scuff on the corner of the rear bumper which would benefit from a localised repair – again hardly noticeable on the photographs.  I have various invoices with the car along with the original import documents (all in Japanese!) ? I also have two keys, the jack, wheel brace, tool kit, space-saver spare wheel etc. This is a really nice car that the previous owner paid nearly ?4000 for, only three and a half years ago. Everything works as it should (, heater, door locks etc). Its not in mint condition but it is tidy, presentable and reliable. On a trip to Newcastle yesterday, it averaged around 40mpg and cruises nicely at 80mph+.  I?ve had a few MX5s and this is a nice one with a good spec which I absolutely love, but unfortunately now require something with more room. I will accept payment via PayPal  or by bank transfer immidately as I am looking for a quick sale due to the up and coming tax. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions ? I?ll do my best to help. .
